OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Financial Services

OpenAI has launched a specialised version of ChatGPT aimed at investment banks, equity researchers and other financial-services organisations. The product combines its latest model with integrated financial datasets and existing enterprise security controls.

Users can research companies, build financial models and prepare client materials using their organisation’s own templates. The launch shows how generative AI products are increasingly being tailored for regulated industries rather than offered as general-purpose assistants.

Key facts

  • Developed with Morgan Stanley and Evercore as design partners.
  • Includes data from LSEG News, PitchBook, Daloopa, Crunchbase and Quartr.
  • Supports integrations with services including FactSet and S&P Global.
  • Can assist with research, financial modelling and client materials.
  • Includes role-based access, encryption and exportable workspace logs.
  • OpenAI plans to expand it beyond investment banking and equity research.

Our take

This is a useful direction for enterprise AI. The value is not simply having a more capable chatbot, but combining an AI model with trusted industry data, existing subscriptions, organisational templates and auditable controls.

For New Zealand financial organisations, the same model is likely to become increasingly important. AI tools that understand internal context while respecting access controls, data governance and compliance requirements should be more useful than standalone public AI services.
